It was another record-breaking year for the CBC Project Give Telethon in support of the Ottawa Food Bank! For the second consecutive year, net2phone Canada had the pleasure of contributing to the annual charity drive by providing all phone hardware and tech support services to power the telethon. Spanning many years, the Ottawa Food Bank and CBC have partnered together over the holiday season for a day of broadcasting local talent, spreading holiday cheer, increasing awareness, and collecting donations for the thousands of families benefiting from the Food Bank’s efforts to end hunger in Ottawa. Thanks to all of the generous donors coming together to support the Ottawa community, CBC Project Give raised an incredible $200,477.26!

The Ottawa Food Bank is a pillar of the Ottawa community, delivering over 114 Emergency Food Programs and supplies to over 38,400 clients every month. A whopping 37% of these clients are children under 18 years of age. The winter months are particularly crucial as families depending on these services begin preparing for the Holiday season and the cold weather ahead. As part of our commitment to the 1-1-1 designation of corporate philanthropy, we have pledged 1% of our equity, 1% of our time, and 1% of our services to charitable endeavours. Through this initiative, we’re proud to support Canadian non-profits like the Ottawa Food Bank, whose mission is to serve the needs of others.

The call room came alive at 5:00 am, where volunteers both new and old eagerly jumped on the phones to collect donations. net2phone Canada staff remained in the room to provide tech support services, assist fellow volunteers with using the devices, and even volunteer on the phones themselves.

Call statistics were compiled throughout the day to illustrate busiest call times, number of calls handled, average call volume per hour, and more. These statistics enable CBC and the Ottawa Food Bank to understand their callers’ behaviours and best prepare for the following years’ telethons. Here are some of the amazing stats from the 2019 telethon:

  • 312 total calls received
  • 10 donated phones
  • Average talk time was 4.2 minutes
  • Average answer speed was 32 seconds
  • 4 net2phone Canada volunteers
  • Over $200,477 raised, beating last year’s total of $197,745

“The team at net2phone Canada went above and beyond for us again this year for CBC Project Give! Thank you for not only supplying the phones, set up, and tech support for our phone room during the event - but for also joining in on the fun and volunteering in our phone room as well,” says Samantha Ingram, Communications Manager, Ottawa Food Bank. “We truly appreciate the support and enthusiasm that you brought to the day. Thank you!”

net2phone Canada is proud to have once again been part of such an incredible day! We look forward to continually supporting the Ottawa Food Bank and the great work they do in fighting hunger in Ottawa.
